TRESemme Salon Finish Freeze Hold Hairspray

2 / 21 / 16

DSC001361-720x1024I only use hairspray when I’m wearing my hair up to control all those fuzz flyaway bits, they’ve driven me mad for years, I look like I have a halo of fuzz on the top of my head (and it’s not attractive!)
I should at this point tell you I have long curly, wavy, fuzzy, frizzy hair with some straight bits thrown in for good measure. It’s fine and flyaway, I can sort of style it but as soon as theres a hint of wind or rain forget it, I may as well have not bothered.
Then I found the answer (well for when I put my hair up at least) drum roll please…….. TRESemme Salon Finish Freeze Hold Hairspray… Ta Daaaaah. Once you spray this on nothing and I mean nothing will sneak out of place, keep in mind I haven’t tried this in a convertible or hurricane but for normal day to day it’s truly fab! And I don’t seem to need much.

P.S. Someone once told me that curly hair is a deformed follicle, how mean was that!? One day i’ll research it but for now, me and my (maybe) deformed follicles have to much work to do.
Hope this helps x

Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Eye Cream Review

2 / 5 / 16

Screen-Shot-2015-06-25-at-18.44.56A few months ago my eye area started feeling quite dry and sensitive and I noticed some early signs of ageing (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!)
After trying a few different eye creams I decided to try the Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Eye Cream as I use other products from this range (see earlier posts if you would like information on moisturisers etc) I liked it straight away as it has the right consistency and moisture level for me.
Whilst it’s important to have a lighter cream for the eye area than we use for our faces as the skin there is more delicate, I found many other eye creams to be too light, they just didn’t give me the moisture I need.
Luckily this Nivea eye cream is a little thicker than most and I must say I have definitely noticed a difference, It’s also got the signature Nivea scent though in a much milder form which I like.
The cream is smooth and easily absorbed, once I’ve applied it to my eye area, if there is any excess left on my fingers I apply it to my lips, the price is also reasonable and it lasts quite a while.

Screen-Shot-2015-06-24-at-21.27.50

After cleansing and toning but before moisturising, squeeze a pea size amount out, place it between two fingers to warm it slightly, then pat it gently into the eye area.
The packet says “visibly smoothes fine lines and wrinkles….. firms and improves skin renewal” So far so good!

Nivea Cellular Anti-Age, Day Cream Review

2 / 2 / 16

DSC00129-1024x996So to go along with my Nivea Serum and Night Cream I bought the Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Skin Rejuvenation Day Cream SPF 15 (What a mouthful) to give it a try.
I really like this cream, I don’t need slap it on like I do with the night cream, as I use the serum all over my face, I don’t feel I need the day cream on my T-zone.
The texture is a medium lightness, smooth and again has the lovely clean and fresh Nivea scent. I find my skin stays hydrated and comfortable all day (which is a big plus when fighting wrinkles etc) As with the other products I have talked about in this Nivea range the price is great and is usually in an offer in some of the larger shops.
The combination of these products are working fabulously for me and I’ve always spent a fortune on high end professional skincare. Yes there are some products out there which may have larger quantities of anti-ageing ingredients, but at the moment these are really suiting my skin.
It’s more about finding out what suits your skin and remember at different times of the year and sometimes month your skin may have different needs.

Nivea Cellular Anti-Age, Night Cream Review

2 / 1 / 162 / 2 / 16

DSC001341-1024x628Another big huge tick for Nivea, for me they have got this formula right for the night. It’s rich, thicker than the day cream which is what I want and luxurious, when I wake up in the morning my skin still feels hydrated, smooth and comfortable. I love the scent, it’s the same signature Nivea scent which is fresh and light.
I use the serum which I have reviewed in an earlier post beneath this cream and with the combination of the intense serum and the richness of the night cream my skin is looking hydrated, glowing and youthful. All without breaking the bank yeeeaaah!
This cream is such a reasonable price and as with the serum there is usually a deal on in larger shops so I’ve never paid full price. I have been so impressed with the serum and the night cream that I have bought the day cream which I will review shortly.
It’s important to have a good rich night cream to replenish your skin while you sleep, this cream contains, short-chain Hyaluronic Acid, Magnolia Extract and Creatine, these ingredients support cell function, and help hydrate among other things.
The box says ‘Reduces the appearance of wrinkles, noticeably firms & improves skin renewal with Hyaluronic Acid and Magnolia Extract”
I can tell you at the moment it’s working for me!

Nivea Cellular Anti-Age Refining Serum Review

1 / 30 / 162 / 2 / 16

DSC001251-711x1024A couple of months ago, I picked up Nivea’s Cellular Anti-Age Skin Rejuvenation, Concentrated Skin-Refining Serum and I luuuurv it! I love the way it feels smooth on my skin, the texture is light but luxurious and Nivea’s signature scent makes me feel fresh and clean.
Ok so it’s not paraben free, but BUT it seems to work! My skin is clear and glowing and more or less wrinkle free woohoo!
The price is great too, when you compare it to a lot of other brands it’s well worth the money and i’ve never paid full price as there is usually always an offer on in the larger shops.
On the box it says ‘Visibly smooths skin appearance. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles, noticeably firms & improves skin renewal. With Hyaluronic Acid and Magnolia Extract’
I believe it does what it says on the box, I’m on my second bottle and I’m always getting compliments on my skin.
It’s really important to use a serum if you can, as they usually contain greater concentrated amounts of anti-ageing properties. Use your chosen one all over your face, neck and décolleté under your moisturiser morning and night for an intensive treat.

Tip – For Oily areas just use the serum under make-up without moisturiser, allow it to soak in a little but not dry out completely before applying either moisturiser or make-up

Protect, Protect, Protect Your Skin!

1 / 28 / 162 / 1 / 16

DSC000701-768x1024I can’t stress enough the importance of protecting your skin from the sun and elements.
The sun plays a significant role in the ageing and premature ageing process, whilst we definitely need the sun for vitamin D etc little and often with protection is always best.
As soon as you feel your skin getting hot, it’s time to get in the shade until it cools down. Your skin will also suffer if over exposed to wind, rain, heating, air conditioning, pollution, the list goes on…. We’ve all heard of prevention is better than cure, it’s so true!
I really like Clinique – CLINIQUE SUPER CITY BLOCK OIL FREE SPF40
I put it on every morning after moisturising. It’s great as it’s oil free, SPF 40 and is safe to put under the eyes where the skin is much thinner and sensitive therefore more susceptible to ageing.
Gently massage it in to your whole face, neck and décolleté, it does leave you a little paler if you have olive, dark or tanned skin, but your foundation will cover that, then apply foundation as normal, do this every day of the year what ever the weather.
Remember your skin is your largest organ and covers you from head to toe, it should be protected, respected and nurtured, as it is what protects you!

Homemade Exfoliators-Important & Healthier

1 / 28 / 168 / 16 / 17

Screen-Shot-2015-06-25-at-19.25.02Homemade facial and body exfoliators are simple to make, kind to your skin, healthier for the environment and your wallet!
A large portion of beauty products such as exfoliators/scrubs, cleansers, soaps, toothpaste and even some shampoos contain man made plastic micro-beads such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate.
Whilst lovely for your skin, the impact on the environment is becoming catastrophic and the death rate of fish and bird life due to ingestion is alarming.
These beads are so small they are not being sifted out by sewerage plants, therefore they are ending up contaminating our beautiful oceans.
These plastics are not biodegradable and in some seas the plastic beads are more plentiful then plankton which are being mistaken for food by marine life.
All of which is awful and totally unnecessary! So pleeease try and use these homemade recipes below.
Exfoliating is an important part of any health and beauty regime. Not only does it remove dead skin leaving a healthy glow, it helps premature ageing, promotes cell renewal and among many other things enables your creams to penetrate rather then sit on top of dead skin cells.
Exfoliation does however have to be done gently and only once a week for dry and/or sensitive skins, twice a week for oily and/or congested skins. Whilst Sugar increases premature ageing when eaten, applied to the skin it has the opposite effect. It’s excellent for breaking down the dead skin cells, smoothing the skin and promoting cell renewal.

The Easiest And Quickest Recipe For An Exfoliator
Once you have chosen a cleanser which is kind to your face and the environment, dispense a 50 pence size amount into your palm, then simply add some sugar (not caster sugar though) to make a paste. Ta Daaah you’ve made an environmentally, wallet friendly exfoliator!
Keep reading for tips on how to exfoliate.

Another Recipe For Homemade Exfoliator
All you need is either fine Sea Salt or Organic Sugar and either Organic Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil or Grapes Seed Oil or any other of your favourite oils (Organic is a personal preference any sugar or oil is fine)

Method
Heres what you do, pour a small amount of either the sugar or salt into a small cup or bowl, then gradually mix in some of your chosen oil stirring the mixture until you have made a thickish paste.
After cleansing your face and neck and whilst still damp, scoop up your mixture in between your fingers, hold it there to warm it briefly then distribute it over your face and neck. Massage in gentle slow circular movements avoiding the delicate eye area, pay special attention to any areas which are oily, dull or congested. Remove the mixture with warm water either by splashing water or by using a muslin cloth or soft face flannel. Finish with a mask or moisturiser of your choice. Voila! Beautiful skin and No nasty chemicals or plastics in your body or the environment.
Both the above methods can be applied to your body so you can enjoy beautiful skin from top to toe with a clear conscience!

A Foundation That Really Stays Put!

1 / 28 / 162 / 1 / 16

Screen-Shot-2015-07-17-at-18.30.12This Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is truly excellent, It just doesn’t move!
Usually by midday or early evening my foundation has either slid off my face or as I’m always touching my face, it’s usually all over my hands and anything else I’ve touched (annoyingly)
The bottle says ‘stay-in-place make-up’ and boy does it, it has a smooth texture and a pleasant scent, but be warned you need to get used to applying it. When it’s dried it really isn’t good to go over it as it will look a bit caked, so work quite quickly using a brush.
Blend downwards paying special attention to any pigmentation problems, thread veins (yes it covers them yeeeaaah) etc
The other fabulous thing is you really don’t need much, the 30ml bottle will last ages and the colours available are lovely, they give a great even warm tone and this product seems to help with the appearance of enlarged pores.
But heres my second warning…… moisturise well! This foundation dries quite dry, if your skin isn’t well moisturise it simple won’t sit as well, so exfoliate regularly and moisturise well….. your result will then be as even and as flawless a complexion (which stays in place) as you’ll probably ever have.
If you’re like me and you like to look a bit more tanned than you actually are, buying a shade or two darker is a great way to go, but blend the foundation down onto your neck otherwise you’ll have an unsightly line.

A Really Great Primer By Estee Lauder

1 / 28 / 168 / 16 / 17

If you don’t use or have never used a primer and have trouble getting your make-up to stay in place or have uneven skin texture, large pores or dullness, a good primer can really help.
I bought this one by Estée (ha, look at me, I found the e with a little hat on) Lauder when I bought the double wear foundation.
On the front of the box it says ‘Illuminating Perfecting Primer’ on the back it says ‘Adds instant brightness and radiance so make-up looks smooth and fresh’ I have to say my skin has never looked better, it really is illuminated without being shiny!
This product has ‘soft-reflection optic’ which is said to minimise the appearance of pores and flaws, I must say it definitely has made a difference to mine Yaaaaaay!
This primer has a light soft creamy texture, with little to no scent, the product goes far so you really don’t need much. Having said that, don’t rub it in too much, it needs to sit on your skin to provide the base you require.
For me, I have achieved the best results when using this primer in combination with the double wear foundation, my skin looks really great if I apply the foundation before the primer has totally dried.
